बीबीसीका पत्रकारले बिचल्ली पारे फिलिपिन्सकी युवतिलाई

Statement of Charina Cabrido
I had a relationship with a Nepali guy (Surendra Phuyal of BBC Nepali) from March 2010 until Oct of 2011.

We were like a married couple and he stayed in my place in Lazimpat, Kathmandu, Nepal.
In Nov 2011, I came to know through a common friend that he has a first wife. I got hold of the wife’s email and asked her if they were still together.
Prior to knowing his marriage status, I was 8 weeks pregnant. Imagine my shock and pain when I heard about his first wife. I went to a state of depression, sleepless night, no appetite to eat up to the point of vomiting and crying all the time. I went home to Manila, Philippines to be with my family.
From thereon, Surendra’s threats and harassment to me started, from emails, and chats and sms telling me to go away and leave his family. His family also sent me harassment emails, texts and messages asking me to abort the baby.

I sent him my medical records, ultrasound reports, everything to his house in Mulpani – and he did not speak to me for at least 3 weeks, leaving me lost and emotionally beaten.
Emotionally unsettled and was traumatized by his reaction of deliberate not talking to me, I flew to Kathmandu last Dec 2011 to meet him face to face but he was persistent to keep me out of his life and even the baby. He emotionally attacked me, saying to me to abort it, or donate to orphanage (which he even said in front of my face) when I met him in Kathmandu last Dec 2011. I walked out of Bakery Café in New Baneshwor, crying after our meeting.
I talked to his wife, to his family, asking for help to mediate between us. I talked to him requesting him about plans for the baby.
When I came back in Manila in January 2012, he sent me an email in January 11, 2012 saying that I have ruined his life and his family’s life. He threatened that he will report me to my bosses.
The next day, he used his BBC Nepali title to get through the ADB media center, attacking my honor, and intriguing me that I was a mistress wanting to get back. He falsely blamed me for the cyber scandals and fake account of Anjila Shrestha and pointed that I made up that account to destroy him.
He sent that email to my line managers including the media center saying that I harassed him.
I asked my lawyer to file an affidavit and countercharge denying this allegation and filed this complaint to BBC Nepal as a grave violation of media ethics.
I cried so hard and after 2 days, my work contract for the Department of External Relations was terminated.
This has psychologically disturbed me and has affected my work terribly. I am crying everyday and deprived of sleep. I wake up every at 2 in the morning and cry non-stop.
I complained to Press Council Nepal about this violation on media ethics.
Jaana Astha newspaper exposed in a story dated Jan 26, 2011.
People are helping me connect to BBC in London so I can flag the appropriate case to the right authorities. Surendra Phuyal has faked online news in BBC news in 2008 and was given official sanction. He has already a record of violation and was suspended violating media ethics.
I am deeply hurt, used, and abused, completely harassed but still fighting for justice.
On March 3, 2012, his wife Nikita Phuyal tried to lodge a case against me in Nepal Police for harassment and defamation. Because of this incident triggering severe psychological stress, I had hemorrhage and bleeding and was taken to the hospital. I encountered painful contractions and in the process I lost the baby.
In March 2012, me and my lawyers filed a domestic violence case in Kathmandu District Court against Surendra Phuyal, on basis of emotional abuses, sexual abuses, financial loss of my job and threats. I also filed divorce and partition against him.
In April 2012, Surendra Phuyal sent me 42 harassment threats and messages in my mobile and I complained this in Kathmandu District Court. Surendra has threatened that he will have me deported out of Nepal. The court released an interim protection order in response to secure my life and safety in Kathmandu, Nepal. This means that any attempt of future harassments from Surendra thru text, emails will send Surendra directly to jail for contempt of court.
Surendra filed a cybercrime charges against me in Hanumandhoka accusing me of fake cyber accounts. After police investigation, the charges against me were dropped due to lack of evidence. His continuous threats and harassments to me is abusive, unfair and purely a strategy to scare me off and weaken me in my court cases.
Surendra faked FB accounts to destroy and defame me.
I have filed all possible cases in Nepal against this person - domestic violence, divorce, alimony, contempt of court all in ktm district court and cybercase and sexual harassment in police. Everything is ongoing, and my first hearing is set on Aug 5 and I have recently reinforced my legal team with Sapana Malla and Meera Dhungana as part of the case. Sapana is the author of domestic violence bill in Nepal and my case is the first case in Nepal wherein living together scenario is applied in court case.
On two accounts, Surendra has violated the court's interim protection to me by 1. coming to my apartment to harass me and sent me sexual SMS and blackmailed me for money 2. coming to my workplace to violently attack me and get the evidence (brief which he sent to my apartment to sexually harass me) and threw it outside my office window to get rid of the evidence.
I am deeply hurt, abused and insulted. I, and my family with the Filipino Community in Nepal are standing strongly to fight this discrimination and violence that Mr. Phuyal is doing against me.
